Industrial Environments and the Summer Heat: What You Can Do

With spring approaching, the cold spell that gripped Florida at the beginning of 2019 has almost broken. However, during summer the temperature levels in the Sunshine State can rise up to 109 F, making outdoor activities nearly impossible.
In industrial environments in particular, it can be fairly difficult to keep the internal temperature at a comfortable level during summer, due to the heat expelled by heavy machinery and chemical processes.
Here are some tips you can follow this summer, to keep the heat in your facility under control.
De-stratify Air with High Volume, Low Speed Fans
It’s easy for heat to build up in vast storage areas, such as warehouses. High Volume, Low Speed fans (HVLS) are essentially oversized industrial fans, with blades measuring up to more than 7 feet. These large blades of HVLS fans allow them to efficiently mix up layers of hot and cool air, which de-stratifies it and lowers the temperature of any room. What sets HVLS fans apart from other air conditioning options is their ability to regular internal temperature of a room while utilizing minimum amount of energy.
Follow Temperature Based Segmentation
Maintaining internal temperature in high-traffic locations such as warehouses and loading docks is a constant struggle, as conditioned air inevitably leaks when goods are moved from one point to another. To resolve this issue, you can consider dividing your plant in different zones on the basis of temperature. For temperature based segmentation, you can use air curtains or vinyl strip doors at the entrance and exit points areas with varying temperatures. This will allow you to contain the cool air inside and prevent the warm air from penetrating into the cooled room.
Insulate Adequately
Identify any points through which heat can flow into your facility. Check if there are any gaps between the doors installed in your facility through which conditioned air could be escaping your facility. Insulate these points with pre-made seals or apply sealing agents to close them off.
